The Office of the Presidency has raised concerns following reports that donors plan to withdraw food aid from all refugee camps in Uganda.
This alarming development was revealed by Justine Lumumba, the Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Presidency, during her appearance before the Parliamentary Committee on Presidential Affairs.
She warned that within three months, donors would halt their food aid contributions, potentially leaving millions at risk.
Lumumba informed lawmakers that a document has been drafted for Cabinet, outlining the crisis and proposing urgent budgetary adjustments and policy reviews to address the looming humanitarian challenge.
Uganda currently hosts nearly 1.7 million refugees across various camps, making it one of the largest refugee-hosting nations in the world.
The potential loss of food aid threatens to escalate an already fragile situation, prompting calls for immediate government intervention.
