Two ministers and four members of parliament are among the 3,212 leaders who failed to declare their assets as required by law in March 2025.
This was confirmed by the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Betty Kamya Turwomwe, during a media update at the Uganda Media Centre.
The Leadership Code Act (Cap 33) mandates all politicians and public servants to declare their assets and liabilities between March 1st and March 31st each year to the Office of the Inspector General of Government.
While Kamya did not disclose the names of those who failed to comply, she explained that the Leadership Code Act allows these officials a chance to explain why they missed the deadline.
If their reasons are deemed unsatisfactory, they will be referred to the Leadership Code Tribunal, which will sit in May 2025.
Kamya also reported that out of 32,068 registered leaders across 328 institutions, 28,856 successfully declared their assets, representing a 90% compliance rate.
Notably, districts such as Busia, Iganga, Moroto, and Kotido Municipality achieved a 100% declaration rate.
However, five districts and entities Abim, Amuru, Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, Kapelebyong, and Masaka City had declaration rates below 50%.
