Kotido RDC urges women to adopt biogas methods to combat environmental degradation

Kotido Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Charles Ichogor

The Kotido Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Charles Ichogor, has stressed the importance of training and sensitizing women to adopt biogas cooking methods as part of a broader initiative to address environmental degradation caused by excessive firewood cutting.

Ichogor explained that the rise in firewood usage for cooking has contributed significantly to deforestation and other environmental challenges.

Ichogor emphasized that by embracing biogas technology and using briquettes made from organic waste, such as cow dung mixed with adhesives, women can reduce their dependence on firewood and charcoal.

This shift, he believes, will help mitigate the negative impacts of deforestation while promoting sustainable energy solutions.

The RDC has also called on development partners to take the lead in training women on environmentally friendly cooking methods, including the production and use of biogas.

Additionally, he urged these partners to provide tree seedlings, particularly fruit trees, to address the community’s nutritional challenges and promote sustainable livelihoods.

Ichogor concluded by advocating for greater involvement of children in environmental conservation, urging parents and stakeholders to educate the younger generation about the dangers of environmental destruction.

He believes that such efforts will foster a positive, environmentally conscious mindset in the community, securing a healthier future for all.
