The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, emphasized the need for Caritas Uganda to prioritize social development in its initiatives.
This was during the 15th National Caritas Week Celebration in 2025, held in Kabale, the Bishop of Kabale Diocese,
Addressing Caritas directors and Women coordinators from all Catholic dioceses in Uganda, he underscored the significance of the event’s theme, “Caritas empowering communities; for I was hungry and you gave me food,” drawing inspiration from Matthew 25:35.
Bishop Rubaramira called for annual self-evaluations within all Caritas departments, suggesting that this process be incorporated into the celebration program.
He believed that such evaluations would enhance the implementation of social development strategies and encourage Caritas Uganda to critically assess its methodologies.
The Bishop urged the organization to re-evaluate its goals to ensure that it effectively supports the communities it serves.
In contrast, Fr. Vincent Byaruhanga, the Director of Caritas Kabale Diocese, raised concerns about recent announcements from the Netherlands regarding a 60% reduction in donations.
He warned that this significant decrease could severely impact the operations of diocesan Caritas, potentially threatening its ability to fulfill its mission.
Despite these challenges, Fr. Byaruhanga urged Caritas Kabale to maintain its commitment to effective service delivery.
He called on the community to continue supporting the organization and to actively participate in its programs, highlighting the importance of collective effort in overcoming financial obstacles.
The event served as a reminder of Caritas’s dedication to empowering communities, even in the face of financial constraints.
The leaders present reaffirmed their commitment to serving the needy effectively, focusing on innovative solutions to adapt to the changing funding landscape while continuing to uphold their mission of charity and community support.
