Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of the Opposition, has announced that only 72 opposition MPs have signed the resolution to reject the controversial Shs100 million rewards.
This comes after a closed-door caucus meeting led by acting Leader of the Opposition, Muwanga Kivumbi, which was convened, last Thursday to rally supports against the reward and ensure accountability among opposition members.
In a press briefing, Ssenyonyi expressed his commitment to making the list of signatories’ public, although he noted his disappointment that the number remains low.
He suggested that this scarcity of signatures supports allegations that some opposition MPs may have already accepted the Shs100 million.
Addressing claims made by President Museveni, who accused opposition MPs of receiving foreign funds, particularly from organizations supporting homosexuality, Ssenyonyi challenged the president to identify those allegedly receiving such support.
He also urged the public not to pressure legislators into accepting the money, labeling it as “dirty money.”
Furthermore, Ssenyonyi called on the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) to investigate and take action against any MPs thought to have accepted the Shs100 million.
