Airtel Uganda Launches Anti-Spam Services

The Minister of Information and ICT, Chris Baryomunsi, has praised Airtel Uganda for its introduction of anti-spam services designed to combat scams and fraudulent messages, enhancing customer safety in the digital landscape.

During the launch event held at Serena Hotel in Kampala, Baryomunsi noted that the service will address various types of fraud, including online job scams, shipment frauds, lottery-related frauds, and banking and mobile money scams.

He highlighted the Ugandan government’s commitment to promoting digital security and protecting citizens from online threats.

The initiative by Airtel Uganda represents a significant step in creating a more secure digital environment, setting a precedent in both Uganda and the broader African context.

The anti-spam services are expected to significantly reduce or eliminate the volume of scam messages and calls experienced by consumers.

Soumendra Sahu, Managing Director of Airtel Uganda, emphasized the company’s dedication to safeguarding Ugandan citizens from financial losses and identity theft, contributing to a stable socio-economic situation in the country.

David Birungi, Head of Communication at Airtel, also pointed out the importance of the new service in protecting customers’ interests and enhancing their overall experience with the telecom provider.
