Bobi Wine responds to Museveni’s claims of foreign funding

The President of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the President of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), commonly known as Bobi Wine, has addressed President Museveni’s allegations that the opposition is receiving foreign funds to destabilize his government.

Kyagulanyi described these claims as a “blind accusation,” intended to distract the public from discussing unaccounted expenditures within Museveni’s administration that negatively affect ordinary taxpayers.

In a counter-allegation, Kyagulanyi demanded that President Museveni provide transparency regarding the funds his government receives from the United States, particularly those allocated for LGBT initiatives.

At a press conference held at the NUP headquarters in Kavule, where new party members from various political affiliations, including NRM, DP, FDC, JEEMA, and the pressure group PLU, were welcomed, Kyagulanyi acknowledged that they do accept support from abroad.

He clarified that this funding comes from foreign friends and Ugandans in the diaspora who are seeking change.

Kyagulanyi further asserted that it is actually President Museveni’s government that receives considerable funding from foreign entities, particularly the U.S., to support initiatives that, according to him, violate fundamental human rights and societal norms.

He cited remarks made by former American President Donald Trump to underscore his point.

During the press briefing, Kyagulanyi also challenged the new party entrants to familiarize themselves with the core principles of the NUP rather than pursuing their personal interests.
