The Catholic Church in Uganda has called on the government to take decisive action against corruption, which it views as a significant barrier to effective service delivery.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Antony Zziwa, the Bishop Chairman of the Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, made this appeal while delivering the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) Easter Message following the public Way of the Cross held at Old Kampala Grounds.
Bishop Zziwa highlighted corruption as a major obstacle to the country’s development, stating that it deprives citizens of essential services and perpetuates poverty.
He urged the government to implement concrete measures to tackle this pervasive issue and to ensure the efficient and effective use of national resources.
In his message, Bishop Zziwa also stressed the importance of environmental preservation, noting that the public has deliberately abused natural resources.
He emphasized that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect the environment, particularly during the Easter celebrations.
Additionally, Bishop Zziwa challenged all stakeholders involved in the electoral process to promote and work toward peace before, during, and after elections, underscoring the need for a peaceful democratic environment.
