In a significant display of unity, the Bishop of Kasana Luweero Diocese, Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, and his Anglican counterpart, Rt. Rev. Wilson Kisekka, participated in the first-ever joint ecumenical public Way of the Cross since their appointments to their respective Episcopal roles.
Bishop Mukasa was consecrated and installed on August 5, 2023, while Bishop Kisekka was enthroned on March 24, 2024.
The solemn procession began at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace Cathedral in Kasana, where Bishop Mukasa led the first station by lifting the Cross.
After walking a short distance, he handed the Cross over to Bishop Kisekka, symbolizing collaboration and shared faith as other believers joined in the procession.
Before the procession commenced, Bishop Mukasa welcomed Bishop Kisekka and urged the assembled faithful to approach the event with reverence, discouraging any selfish motives.
He emphasized the importance of reflecting on the profound suffering that Jesus Christ endured for humanity.
Bishop Kisekka echoed this sentiment, encouraging participants to use the Way of the Cross as an opportunity for personal transformation and to witness the sacrifice of Jesus Christ in their lives.
As the event unfolded, the two prelates, accompanied by thousands of faithful, continued their walk through the towns of Kasana and Luweero in Luweero District, with plans to conclude the day’s activities at St. Mark’s Cathedral later in the afternoon.
This joint event not only marks a milestone in cooperation between the Catholic and Anglican communities but also serves as a powerful reminder of the shared messages of faith, sacrifice, and redemption central to the Easter narrative.
