Police investigating alleged suicide of trainer at Kabalye Police Training School

The police in Albertine region are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide of a police trainer who reportedly shot himself at the Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi.

The deceased has been identified as James Tembo, a 29-year-old instructor at the training facility.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 2:30 p.m. within the school premises.

According to police reports, Constable Francis Onek had entrusted his firearm to Tembo shortly before the incident.

Minutes after receiving the gun, Tembo allegedly used it to take his own life.

Julius Hakiza, the police spokesperson for the Albertine region, stated that the motive behind Tembo’s actions remains unclear.

The police recovered the firearm, which contained 28 live rounds of ammunition, and have exhibited it as evidence.

In connection with the investigation, Constable Onek has been detained to assist with inquiries into the circumstances leading to Tembo’s suicide.

Additional Incident: Police Officer Involved in Fatal Collision.

In a separate incident, a police officer identified as Reuben Kwihangana was involved in a fatal collision with a boda boda rider named Mawala Mawejje, a resident of Rukoge cell in Hoima West Division, Hoima City.

The collision occurred on Sunday around 10 p.m. in Lusaka Middle cell.

Details surrounding the incident indicate that Kwihangana collided head-on with Mawejje while riding a motorcycle.

Further investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the accident.
