Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine has on Tuesday evening been reportedly shot in the left leg during a confrontation with police.
The incident happened at Bulindo, Kira Municipality in Wakiso district where he had attended a Thanksgiving ceremony that was organized by his party lawyer George Musisi.
Video posted online showed Kyagulanyi surrounded by followers who yelled that he had been shot before some supported him in a car.
It was not immediately clear whether he was hit by a live bullet or a tear gas canister. Images shared by his close associates showed a bleeding wound below the left knee.
He was later rushed to St Francis Hospital Nsambya for medical attention.
A press statement released by the Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, indicated that Kyagulanyi had been advised against holding a street procession when he left Musisi’s event in Bulindo.
According to the statement, Wine “insisted on proceeding and closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession.”
Rusoke insisted that they had embarked on investigating to clarify the shooting facts and any related incidents.
