Ben Kiwanuka; a Promoter of Justice & Peace

Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere - story by Charles Katabalwa on 24th Sept 2024

The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere has challenged politicians and the public to embrace dialogue and understanding if justice and peace is to prevail in Uganda.

Archbishop Ssemogerere said this during the memorial mass organized by Kampala Archdiocese under the Justice and Peace Department, Caritas Kampala to remember the life of the first black Chief Justice of Uganda, Benedicto Kiwanuka Kagimu at Pope Paul VI Memorial Hotel in Lubaga, Kampala on Tuesday September 24th 2024.

The Archbishop emphasized that promotion of justice and peace is everyone’s obligation and responsibility.

He also praised the late Benedicto Kiwanuka for his commitment in supporting justice and peace in Uganda and it was the reason why he was murdered and his remains have never been seen 52 years after his disappearance in 1972.

He challenged politicians to borrow a leaf from the life of Benedicto Kiwanuka and be true to the calling of service and embrace dialogue and understanding.

Benedicto Kiwanuka served as the first black Chief Justice of Uganda from June 27th, 1971 to September 21st, 1972 the day he was forcibly removed from his chambers at the High Court in Kampala by soldiers under the regime of President Idi Amin and was never seen since that day.
