5 Arrested over Murder of Bodaboda Rider in Makindye

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson on boda boda murders

At least five suspects have been detained at Katwe Police Station in connection to the murder of a bodaboda rider at Israel-Matovu zone, Makindye II Parish, Makindye Division, in Kampala on Wednesday October 9th 2024.

It is alleged that Tony Megade, a bodaboda rider stationed at Nakibuuka stage in Israel-Matovu zone was attacked while heading home with his wife, Jane Namubiru.

After parking their motorcycle and beginning their walk home, they were ambushed by eight thugs, who proceeded to stab Megade, according to the police.

Namubiru raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of neighbours.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson says their preliminary investigations indicate that a phone and some cash were stolen from the deceased before the attackers fled the scene.

Owoyesigyire says after the arrest, one of the suspects denied involvement and sought the intervention of the Local Council Chairman for Makindye Katale Zone, one Sowed Kyagombwa.

He adds that upon learning of the arrest and the suspect’s communication with the chairman, some locals, angered by the murder of their bodaboda colleague, wrongly assumed that the chairman was involved and they instead set his LC1 office on fire.

Owoyesigyire however, urges the public to remain calm as investigations into the motive behind the murder and the involvement of all individuals continue.
