The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has deployed over 1,200 scouts along with 539 security personnel to protect the Uganda Certificate of Education examinations that commenced on Monday October 14th 2024.
This is after anxiety loomed large across the country as the first cohort of Senior Four candidates to sit for the UCE examinations under the New Lower Secondary Curriculum-NLSC started on Monday since its enrolment in 2021.
According to UNEB, a total of 379,748 students of which 10,147 are Transitional candidates and 369,601 are pioneers of the New Curriculum, were registered to sit for the UCE examinations that will end on November 15th.
Jennifer Kalule Musamba, the UNEB Spokesperson says that the deployment is done to deter any form of malpractice and security related incidents that may arise. She however, warns against involvement in any form of examination malpractice or facilitating the same.
Kalule further warns the public against dealing with fraudsters to trick unsuspecting members of the public, adding that some of the fraudsters have already been arrested and two of them were remanded by the Magistrate’s Court in Tororo last week.
Candidates under the New Lower Secondary Curriculum have started with Mathematics Paper and Chemistry Paper One, while those under the transitional program have started with Chemistry Practical Paper Three and will have Music Aural later in the afternoon.
Some of the school head teachers Radio Sapientia managed to reach include; Francis Xavier Kyasa, the Head teacher Midland High School Kawempe who disclosed that they have had a smooth start but warned that some schools want to use underhand methods to earn high grades which UNEB should check to avoid injustice and leading learners into problems.
On Tuesday October 15th 2024 learners will sit for Geography Paper One in the morning and Biology Theory Paper One in the afternoon while those under the transitional program will sit for Physic Practical Paper Three and Fine Art Still Life in the afternoon.
