The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi has raised concern in Parliament over the Roko Construction Company’s transparency and accountability to the Ugandan taxpayers.

A total of Shs 263 billion was committed to bailout the company from its financial problems by the Government amidst resistance from several Opposition Members of Parliament who were against the move.

According to Ssenyonyi, the company management denied them access to their offices in Kawempe division, Kampala during an oversight visit.

Despite prior notification on October 8th 2024, Roko’s Management declined the visit, sparking questions about the integrity and safety of Uganda’s significant investment in the company, totaling over shs 263 billion.

Ssenyonyi’s office has also received complaints about non-payment of employee salaries and failed projects, including the incomplete new Parliamentary Chambers and other Government offices.

Ssenyonyi warned the Government to scrutinize Roko’s operations, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability especially with the involvement of taxpayers’ funds.
