UPC Warns of Vote Rigging in Kisoro District Woman MP By-election

Sharon Oyat Arach the UPC Party Spokesperson

As voters in Kisoro district head to the polls in the Woman Member of Parliament by-election, the opposition Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has issued a stern warning to the Electoral Commission and other stakeholders against engaging in vote rigging.

The alarm was made by the Party Spokesperson Sharon Oyat Arach emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process, ensuring that the voices of the citizens are heard and respected because the electoral commission has a critical role in organizing and conducting regular free and fair elections.

She further highlighted that vote rigging can have severe consequences, including undermining public trust, sparking violence, and compromising the legitimacy of elected leaders.

The Kisoro district Woman MP seat fell vacant following the death of Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, on September 7, 2024, who also doubled as the State Minister for Defence.

Six candidates are in the race and these include; Rose Kabagyeni of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Salim Sultana representing the National Unity Platform (NUP), Aisha Cyimpaye of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Juliet Musanase of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Mable Ingabire from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and Grace Akifeza Ngabirano an independent who lost in the NRM primaries.

The election is to be managed by Daniel Nayebare, the Kisoro District Returning Officer.
