The death toll from a tragic road accident at Kapaburuuli in Migyeera Town Council, Nakasongola District along the Kampala-Gulu highway has risen to six following the death of two additional victims who sustained severe injuries.
Initially, four individuals died at the scene, and eight others were left with serious injuries in the incident that occurred on Monday evening.
Among the first four fatalities were three male adults and one male juvenile.
The collision involved three vehicles: an Iveco trailer (Reg. No. SSD 797A/SSD 323), a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi (Reg. No. UBQ 356F), and a Toyota Premio (Reg. No. UAX 554L).
The Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima said preliminary investigations suggested that the trailer had become stationary due to mechanical issues while facing Kampala when the speeding taxi, traveling from Gulu direction, crashed into it.
The force of the impact caused the taxi to roll over, subsequently colliding with the oncoming Premio from the Kampala side, resulting in serious injuries and fatalities.
Twiineamazima says the two more individuals have succumbed to their injuries.
Twiinamazima notes that the remaining survivors have been transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital due to their deteriorating condition.
Meanwhile, he says police are still working to identify all casualties involved in the accident.
