Lawyers under their umbrella body the Uganda Law Society (ULS) have resolved to conduct three separate missions to rescue and ensure a fair judicial process for their colleague Eron Kiiza who’s currently serving a nine months sentence for contempt of court.
Among the decisions include; one delegation to visit Counsel Kiiza at Kitalya Government Prison on Wednesday to establish the circumstance of his incarceration and discuss potential remedies, the second decision is for another delegation to engage with the General Court Martial leadership and to hold consultations with Senior Counsels; Martha Karua and Erias Lukwago.
The third team will meet with the Chief justice of Uganda Alfonse Owiny-Dollo to demand expeditious delivery of Supreme Court judgment in the Attorney General vs Michael Kabaziguluka case which bears direct relevance to the jurisdiction of the military court over civilians.
It should be remembered that on Tuesday at the Makindye based Court Martial advocate Eron Kiiza was arrested and sentenced to nine months at Kitalya prison over contempt of court.
While talking to our reporter after the meeting, Counsel Samuel Muyizzi Mulindwa disclosed that after all the deliberations, the ULS will reconvene for a way forward on the matter at hand.
