The Opposition Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has urged the Government of Uganda to prioritize key sectors in light of the recent US Government’s move to freeze aid to several countries including Uganda through its agencies like the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The call was made by the UPC Head of Media and Communications, Faizo Muzeeyi during a press conference at the party headquarters at Uganda House in Kampala.
He emphasized the need for the Government to allocate sufficient funds to critical areas such as health, education and agriculture to cover up the gap that is likely to be left by the aid freeze.
He says these sectors are crucial for Uganda’s development, and the Government must ensure they receive adequate support to mitigate the impact of the USAID funding freeze.
According to Muzeeyi, the announcement comes at a time when Uganda is still processing next financial year’s (2025/2026) budget and the key areas mentioned above should be prioritized.
