Uganda AIDS Commission Officials at the UAC offices

The Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) has urged the Parliament’s Committee on HIV/AIDS to advocate for the Government to allocate 300 billion shillings in response to the growing HIV crisis, following the freeze on foreign aid and grant funding initiated by the administration of the United States President Donald Trump.

The request was made in a detailed submission by Dr. Nelson Musoba, the UAC Director General and presented by Dr. Vincent Bagambe, the UAC Director of Planning and Strategic Information.

The submission highlights that if the requested funds are made available, they will ensure the continued delivery of essential HIV services across the country.

Dr. Bagambe emphasized the need for Parliament, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, to adjust budgetary priorities, redirecting resources to increase funding for HIV services.

This additional 300 billion shillingswould be used to cover critical supplies, including medicines, laboratory equipment, and other essential commodities that were previously funded by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
