The “Match to Parliament” demonstration organized by supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) was cut short after their leader; Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, was a no-show.
The supporters on Monday morning were set to walk from the PLU Offices at Naguru under tight security and guidance by Traffic Police to Parliament but instead they stopped at Kati Kati Hotel around Lugogo.
The peaceful March to Parliament was aiming to deliver a petition to the Speaker Among condemning certain Members of Parliament (MPs) whom they accuse of consistently attacking their leader, Gen. Muhoozi, who’s also the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) during parliamentary debates.
While addressing supporters at Kati Kati Hotel, the PLU Secretary General and Kasambya County MP David Kabanda applauded security for allowing them to walk to stand in solidarity with their leader and express dismay with some parliamentarians due to their conduct towards him.
Kabanda disclosed that they did not manage to reach Parliament as planned because their leader Gen. Kainerugaba was not around but they are happy that their statement has reached those responsible before promising to hold another demonstration led by Gen. Kainerugaba.
He has however challenged the opposition parties to borrow a leaf from their peaceful march while holding their demonstrations.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Police Force on Monday maintained a heavy presence around Parliament in anticipation of the PLU march to parliament.
