The Appointments Committee of Parliament chaired by the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among vetted the newly appointed Governor and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda on Tuesday morning.
On Monday, President Yoweri Museveni announced the appointment of Michael Atingi-Ego as Governor and Economist Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.
Atingi-Ego has served as Deputy Governor since March 2020, and has been leading the institution following the passing of the former Governor, the late Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile in January 2022.
An economist, Atingi-Ego previously served as Executive Director of the Macroeconomics and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI), based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The two appointees if approved by parliament, the decision will be communicated to the President for final confirmation.
