Kasubi Tombs ‘Main House’ to be Completed Soon – Katikkiro

Katikkiro Mayiga (L) at Kasubi Tombs

The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, has reassured the Kingdom that the restoration of the main house at the Kasumbi Royal Tombs known as Muzibu-Azaala-Mpanga is almost complete.

Mayiga visited the historical site on Wednesday to inspect the works which has been ongoing since 2013, following a devastating fire in 2010 that gutted the house.

Mayiga’s assurance comes as a relief to the people of Buganda, who have been eagerly waiting for the reopening of the tombs.

He has urged the community to remain calm and patient, as the final touches are being put in place to ensure the site’s integrity and safety.

The restoration project has been a collaborative effort between the Buganda Kingdom, the Ugandan Government, and international organizations, including UNESCO and the project’s completion marks a significant milestone in the preservation of Uganda’s cultural heritage.
