Police Arrests Nyanjula, Ingrid over Demos Calling for Besigye’s Release

Police have arrested the Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura and four other political activists on allegations of inciting violence. 

According to the police, the five were part of a demonstration in the city center calling for the release of Dr. Kizza Besigye and other political prisoners.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson identifies other suspects as; Ingrid Turinawe, Fiona Kabayiza, Faridah Nongozi and Shadia Namubiru.

Onyango says that the arrested suspects were marching from Mini-Price towards Arua Park when police intercepted them at William Street, while others in the group fled the scene upon seeing the police. 

He says the suspects are currently being held at the Kampala Central Police Station (CPS), charged with inciting violence, and their statements have been recorded pending their court appearance.
