Muhammad Luswa Luwemba, the longtime aide to the late Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, has officially announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the forthcoming Kawempe North by-election.

His pronouncement comes shortly after failing to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket last week. He has confirmed that is contesting for the seat left vacant by his former boss and he is going to use a clock as his symbol.

Immediately after his consultation meeting in the nine parishes that make up Kawempe North Constituency on Monday, Luwemba told the media that he has the support of the electorates who have requested him to run as an independent.

Luwemba says he is the rightful candidate to replace the late Ssegirinya and NUP made a grave mistake to deny him the party ticket which was handed over to city lawyer Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola.

He has however denied allegations making rounds that he has joined and will be funded by the latest political pressure group; the Democratic Alliance (DA) that is led by former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba.

The Independent Electoral Commission set March 13th 2025 as the voting day to fill the vacant position of Kawempe North MP.
