The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has directed the Government to come up with a statement on actions taken regarding the tragic incident in Soroti district where a child was slaughtered and his body dumped in a pit latrine.
In her communication to the House on Tuesday, Among expressed concern over the string of unfortunate events that occurred last week, including cases of murder, drowning and suicide in schools.
She noted that despite the severity of these incidents, the Government is yet to issue any official statements.
The Speaker emphasized the importance of responsibility, calling on teachers to take greater responsibility for the children entrusted to their care.
She also urged parents to improve their efforts in raising their children, paralleling the role of teachers during school hours.
Meanwhile, the State Minister for Higher Education, Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo addressed the issue assuring the House that investigations in the matters are ongoing.
He confirmed that the police are handling the cases and noted that statements regarding the various incidents would be presented in Parliament on Wednesday as requested by the Speaker.
