The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among has called for united efforts to address the alarming effects of climate change currently impacting the country.
Her remarks come at a time when the nation is grappling with soaring temperatures, raising concerns about a potential drought and famine.
Speaking during Parliament’s plenary session on Wednesday, Among urged the Government to implement targeted measures and policies focused on rescuing and preserving the environment.
She also appealed to leaders to lead by example, advocating for tree planting initiatives and the revitalization of environmental conservation campaigns.
She suggested that if each of the 556 Members of Parliament planted 1,000 trees, it would be a significant step toward environmental restoration and a healthier future for the country.
Climate change refers to long term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions.
