The People’s Freedom Front (PFF), led by its President and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, has announced plans to mobilize political institutions and parliamentary candidates to demand a suspension of the Kawempe North by-election.
This move follows violent clashes involving the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT), which disrupted a campaign procession led by National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola.
Reports indicate that JATT’s intervention left several supporters injured, including a journalist from TOP TV.
Speaking at a press conference held at a location referred to as “Katonga,” Lukwago condemned the escalating violence, arguing that such an environment is not conducive to a free and fair election.
He clarified that the PFF does not have a candidate in the Kawempe North race, despite the participation of Muhamood Mutazindwa, also known as Sweet Cake.
Lukwago further clarified their failure to have a representative in Kawempe North by-election, saying an ongoing transition from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to fully establishing the PFF as an independent political entity was the cause.
