Government to cover medical bills for Journalist beaten during Kawempe By-Election

The government has pledged to cover the hospital bills of journalist Ibra Miracle, who was assaulted by security operatives (JAT) during the ongoing Kawempe North by-election.

This was revealed by State Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen. David Muhoozi, while addressing Parliament about the violent incidents that occurred last week.

Gen. Muhoozi stated that during clashes between security forces and National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters, several incidents took place, including the journalist’s injury.

Additionally, 24 individuals, including MPs Muwada Nkunyingi and Derrick Nyeko, were arrested.

The Minister assured Parliament that the detained individuals would face legal proceedings and be arraigned in court.

He also called for collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure a smooth electoral process ahead of the elections scheduled for March 13, 2025.

However, Muhoozi’s statement sparked a heated debate in Parliament, with some MPs disputing the journalist’s alleged injury, claiming he was safe.
