The Democratic Party (DP) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to explain discrepancies in the vote tallies published in the Uganda Gazette on March 24, 2025.
The gazette confirmed Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola’s victory in the recent parliamentary by-election with 17,939 votes, defeating Faridah Nambi of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who secured 9,058 votes.
However, DP Spokesperson Ismail Kiirya has raised concerns over inconsistencies between the Declaration Results (DR) forms and the figures published in the gazette.
According to Kiirya, Nambi’s initial tally was 8,593 but was later revised to 9,058, while Nalukoola’s count increased from 17,764 to 17,939.
He suspects possible collusion between the EC and the NRM to interfere with Nalukoola’s victory.
Kiirya is demanding an official explanation for the altered figures, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
