Lukanga slams footballers for dishonesty, celebrates boxing legacy with lifetime achievements award

Jaaja Samuel Lukanga, the head of Lukanga Boxing Club

Jaaja Samuel Lukanga, the head of Lukanga Boxing Club, has shared his views on the management dynamics of athletes, contrasting the behaviors of boxers with those of football players.

With over two decades of experience leading boxing in the country, Lukanga believes that boxers are generally easier to manage.

Lukanga has expressed confidence in the loyalty and trustworthiness of boxers, emphasizing their straightforward nature.

His experiences in football over the past ten years, however, have exposed him to instances of dishonesty among players, including cases of fake deaths and other forms of indiscipline.

He recounted a specific incident involving former footballer Morley Byekwaso, illustrating his frustrations with the level of dishonesty he claims to have seen in football.

Recently, Lukanga’s commitment to boxing was recognized when he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the organizers of the Fortebet Real Stars Awards, honoring his significant contributions to the sport’s development.

His passion for boxing began in 1969 while living with his aunt in Kyengera, inspired by a legendary match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman he watched on television.

In the boxing scene, Muzamir Kakande was awarded for his impressive knockout victory over British fighter Dan Toward in March during their Super Welterweight bout at Brighton’s Amex Arena.

In football, NEC FC winger Paul Mucureezi was named Player of the Month, while Israel Makokha of Victoria Sharks earned recognition in rugby.

Lukanga’s insights into athlete behavior and management highlight the cultural differences between sports and the challenges these bring.

His unwavering dedication to boxing continues to foster talent and promote the sport within the country.
