The Federation of Uganda Tax Operators (UTOF), under the leadership of Chairman Rashid Ssekindi, has suspended youth leader Sadat Kalyango Mwanje for alleged abuse of leadership.
In a meeting held today at UTOF offices in Nalubwama Arcade, Kampala, Ssekindi accused Mwanje of convening an unauthorized press conference in which he claimed Ssekindi was illegally occupying the chairmanship position due to the expiration of his term and accused him of obstructing efforts to replace him.
Ssekindi was elected in September 2021 to serve a two-year interim term and was expected to facilitate elections, which have yet to take place.
In defence, Ssekindi stated that various pressing issues within the transport sector have hampered the election process.
UTOF Vice-Chairman Mustafa Mayambala emphasized that their immediate focus is on establishing cooperatives to organize and unite tax drivers before proceeding with elections.
