Govt unable to fulfill salary increase demands for Arts Teachers -Finance Minister

Minister of State for Planning in the Ministry of Finance, Amos Lugolobi

The Minister of State for Planning in the Ministry of Finance, Amos Lugolobi, has revealed that the government has no funds to meet the salary increment demands for Arts teachers in the next financial year 2025/2026.

Lugolobi made the remarks while appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Education, where Members of Parliament sought clarification on whether the government had made provisions for increasing the salaries of Arts teachers.

The issue was raised by Bushenyi District Woman MP, Annet Katusiime Mugisha, who questioned whether the Ministry of Finance had allocated funds to support the pay rise, citing the increase in the Ministry of Education’s wage bill from 46 billion to 50.8 billion shillings.

In response, Minister Lugolobi clarified that the government currently lacks the necessary funds to harmonize salaries between Science and Arts teachers, appealing to the concerned teachers to remain patient as the situation is reviewed over time.
