Christians unite for Ecumenical Way of the Cross in Uganda

Christians under the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) gathered on Friday for the “Ecumenical Way of the Cross” to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

This solemn observance is held on Good Friday, a day when believers reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made for humanity during his crucifixion at Calvary.

The event brought together Catholic, Anglican, and Orthodox congregations, fostering unity in their shared remembrance of Jesus Christ’s suffering, death, and subsequent resurrection, which will be celebrated on Easter Sunday.

In Uganda, the UJCC organizes general prayers, and this year, the Ecumenical Way of the Cross took place at the Old Kampala Senior Secondary School playground.

It was led by the UJCC Chairman, Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa, alongside notable religious figures including His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese; His Grace Most Rev. Steven Kaziimba Mugalu; and His Eminence Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi.

The gathering was held under the theme, “They woke him and cried, Lord save us; we are lost” (Matthew 8:25), reflecting the call for divine intervention and guidance.

The event also saw representation from the central government, with Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo attending, highlighting the occasion’s significance in the community.

This powerful display of faith and solidarity among the different Christian denominations served as a profound reminder of the shared beliefs and values centered on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
