The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, has extended his condolences to the Roman Catholic fraternity following the death of Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Speaking at the provincial secretariat in Namirembe, Archbishop Kaziimba recounted Pope Francis’s visit to Uganda in 2015, praising his appreciation for the Uganda Martyrs Museum at the Anglican site.

During that visit, the Pope unveiled a dedication stone and offered prayers for the Uganda Martyrs, actions that continue to inspire generations of youth.

Kaziimba remarked that Pope Francis will be remembered for his profound dedication to young people, his unwavering pro-life commitment to following Christ, and his advocacy for the poor and oppressed.

In related news, Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu has also commissioned six clusters from Northern dioceses to lead the Martyrs’ Day celebrations at the Anglican site in Namugongo on June 3 this year.

The teams, which include representatives from the dioceses of West Lango, Lango, Northern Uganda, Kitgum, Madi West Nile, and Nebbi, are tasked with determining the budget for the upcoming celebrations.

Kaziimba urged well-wishers to support the Martyrs’ Day celebrations as the Anglican community prepares to honor this significant event.
